So, what is a wage subsidy?
Great question! A wage subsidy is a financial incentive of $10,000 (GST inclusive) that is available to qualifying businesses that employ eligible job seekers.
We’ve got a team dedicated to helping you with wage subsidies to ensure your business not only finds the right employee but also benefits financially from recruiting with us.
What sort of wage subsidies are available?
There’s more available than what you might think. You can access the following wage subsidies when you employ eligible job seekers through Employment Plus:
- Restart wage subsidy

Is my business eligible?
We’ll need to ask you some questions to see if you qualify. Your business will need to:
- have an Australian Business Number
- have not previously received a wage subsidy for the same job seeker
- not be a federal, state or territory government agency.
There may be more criteria to fulfil.
I’m not sure what type of jobs I can offer. Can you provide some advice?
To qualify for a wage subsidy a job can be full-time or part-time and needs to:
- be for a minimum of 20 hours per week averaged over the six months of the agreement ongoing
- meet the employment standards for the position (for example, is suitable work and pays as a minimum the national award wage).
There may be more criteria to fulfil.
Is there anything else I need to know?
- Apprenticeships and traineeships are also eligible for wage subsidies.
- The job cannot displace an existing employee, be a commission-based, subcontracting or self-employment position, or be for an immediate family member.
Can I hire anyone?
To receive a wage subsidy, the job seeker you employ must be registered with an employment services provider like Employment Plus. Other eligibility requirements are based on a job seeker’s circumstances.
